Romeria as a Game: A World in Pieces

A prototype of my board game concept

Alongside the writing and image work, I’ve begun to realise that Romeria may eventually want to exist in another form — not as a digital game or a spectacle, but as something physical, slow, and shared.

Over time, I’ve been accumulating a growing number of characters, beings, factions, anomalies, and environments within the world of Romeria. Rather than creating them for a single story or outcome, I’ve been allowing them to exist first — to develop their own logic, strengths, weaknesses, and relationships.

Once enough of these elements are present, it becomes possible to imagine Romeria as a board game.

Cards and miniature figures will be created for this mystical ark fantasy game.

Not a traditional war game, and not something focused purely on combat or victory through force, but a darker, more complex kind of play — one that involves power, deception, magic, knowledge, influence, territory, and consequence. A game where conflict exists, but is only one of many possible paths. Where secrecy, alliances, foresight, corruption, and survival matter as much as strength.

If this project takes form, it would likely be large, physical, and deliberate — something spread out on a table rather than rushed through on a screen. Cards, figures, regions, and systems would emerge directly from the world itself, rather than being imposed onto it.

At the moment, this remains a possible future direction, not a fixed plan. The priority is still the world — the stories, images, and characters. The game, if it happens, will come after the world has fully revealed what it is.

For now, this page simply marks the idea’s presence.

How each card could work with different abilities and magical powers.
